The World Festival, or we can say that the announcement party was held on July 8 2010. It was held at the Opera House, claimed as the biggest opera place in Eastern Europe. All the finalist have tried their best. And, Indonesia still had representatives, Chandradimuka Team from IT Telkom in Interop Award and SiMantri from UI in Envisioning Award. I learned a lot from all the finalist, their ideas, the solutions, the future plan of the business opportunity of the software. It was great. Inspiring. Sometimes, shocking!!!!
In the end, we could still be proud, because Merah Putih was on the stage. Chandradimuka got 3rd winner of the award, behind Brazil and Jamaica. And they announced that the next year worldwide final will be held in New York, USA.

Actually, Indonesia still had an achievement, being the 2nd place of Windows Phone 7 Rockstar Award but unfortunately they didn’t mention it at all. Tselina from ITB, brought manga reader software with great UX experience and won the prize. After the World festival, Microsoft has booked one of biggest club in Warsaw for 400 participant Imagine Cup. We had a great night, hanging around, had nice talk before tomorrow farewell. But of course, I didn’t drinking neither eating the pork :p.
On July, 7, the schedule isn’t so tight anymore. So we could enjoy the city of Warsaw, did some walking and got familiar with the people. The committee has provided us with two city trip to two different places. The first is the Museum and the second is the Old Town.
The Museum is a place where we could understand and learn more about the history of Poland, especially in the time of World War, where Poland was in a great jeopardy. Many people died, building was destroyed, blood everywhere. In the museum we could find anything related to the War such as guns, old radio, the armor, clothes, many videos about Warsaw bombing. Anything. Just name it !

And the second place is the Old Town. It is a part of Warsaw which has 85% destroyed by Alliance Army in the time of World War. But it could be reconstructed because of the paintings, of a great painter at that time. The City was built again based on the picture in the painting. In this town we could find some Polska souvenirs, restaurants, and the Statue of Mermaid. Some old person said that the Statue of Mermaid in Warsaw had siblings in Copenhagen, Denmark.

These two places could be reached only by foot, about 30 minutes. I thought the Polska’s like to walk everywhere but it’s worthy. Along the walk we could enjoy the historical and artistic architecture of the old building, some Chopin Park Chair, the Statue of Copernicus and many more.

We had the presentation. We already tried our best. But, sorry Indonesia, we didn’t make it to semifinals. Disappointed. Who didn’t ?
After having a night of disappointment together with other participants from other countries under the light and heartbeat music (surely, without alcohol and drugs) , we continued the trip. In 5 July, we set up our booth. Today was the Show Case day. It was the day when every team had a chance to show their project to everyone, including the press. And We decorated our booth with poster, roll banner, Indonesian flag,Mosaic board and the statue of Ganesh as the logo of ITB.

Some people visited our booth, and we happily explained them our idea and our solution. Of course, we took picture with them.

Thank you Microsoft that given us such a great chance of Imagine Cup. And we’d like to thank Pertamina , Telkom Indonesia and GMF Aeroasia that supported us on this event. Big thanks.
After having great opening ceremony and a little bit sightseeing of Warsaw at night,on 4 July 2010,it was the really big day. In the morning, all of team briefed by the committee, about what would really going on in the next five days. On that day, all of Software Design Team would present their thought, the ideas behind the problem and the approach they took. It was the time where everyone showed their best hard work for the last six months.
Sixty three participants from any country, was divided into 8 groups according to the room of presentation. The schedule was tight, start at 11 am and finished at 9 pm (poland’s time :D). And Ganesh got to present our solution at 5 pm.

The picture above was the moment before we did the presentation. Hell yeah, one costume was sucks, and not matched the others suite,,,,but it was the idea. Our walkthrough demo is consist of 3 different scenarios. Puja was the traveller guy (that was the hat and the camera) , Andru as doctor and Ical as government person. We practice 4 times at that day and we’re pretty confident.
We did the presentation. We did the Q & A, which was very difficult regarding the business opportunity of the system. But, we thought we already did the best. One of the judge commented the well-structured of our presentation. Julius (Indonesian ADE) said our presentation was way much better than before. Our hope flied :p.

Oh,we’d like to say our great thanks for Camila Formela, a MSP from Poland who was warmly guide us during the presentation time. What a nice talk. Hope you could go to Bali soon.

At 5 pm (Poland Time), 3 July 2010, It was all about the beginning of Imagine Cup 2010. All students, the most talented and bright students all around the world, gathering in front of the Palace Of Culture, Warsaw. It is the biggest building in Warsaw, a historical building that given by Russia as a gift for Poland’s Independence. And it was the place where the greatest student technology competition began.

This big event is opened by motivational speech by Mr Jon Parrera, GM of Education Strategy Microsoft and warmly greeted us by the awesome hospitality of Warsaw. Then we should be proud, the Prime Minister of Poland was the person who directly cut the ribbon, to celebrate the opening. And for the music, it was Zako Power, the famous band from Poland that sang about 12 songs with various unique musical instrument and good attraction.

That was just the moment.
Fortunately, this year I have a chance to go to Poland, Warsaw, as a representative of Indonesia, in Worldwide Finals Imagine Cup 2010. It takes up to 25 hours to reach there. I, Andru, Tito, Aloy, Ical (Ganesh Team) and together with the Indonesia’s representatives in all category, flew to Poland on Friday, 2 July and arrived at Warsaw on Saturday , 3 July. It was quite a tiring journey but it’s fun. True story. I had some new friends from the other team. And we had to change the plane twice, in Hongkong and London Heathrow.

Some of us had to be careful enough with the meal served in the plane, because sometimes they provided English breakfast or meals (that contain pork). Hopefully, in next 6 days I will have great time in Warsaw and Indonesia could do something here.

Indonesia representative (Chandradimuka, SiMantri, Tselina, and Ganesh)

The world is always changing, even when you watch this episode of our story right now. But world is not only the one who is changing, the problems in it to do too. To solve the world toughest problems, it’s imperative that we stay one, two, or maybe even dozens move ahead and be prepared for the challenges ahead. If we put on our horse’s glasses and focus in only problems of today, how can we be prepared for what the future brings? And so we have thrown away our horse’s glasses and we would invite you to throw them away too and enjoy this revealing episode…
In the earlier episodes, we have described about preparing for the problem that will inevitably happens in the future, that is Flu Pandemic. People tend to treat flu lightly compared to another diseases like malaria, or tuberculosis. But one think that most of us don’t realize if a certain flu pandemic reaches a level where the flu reached human-to-human level of infection the world as we know it will stop. There will be no airplanes, no business activities, and of course no school or education activities also because people are too scared to go out, risking themselves to the infection. All of those can be prevented. All of those do not have to happen.
We also have described on how our solution, MOSAIC, protects us with it’s revolutionary Early Detection, global coverage Early Warning, and rightly-timed-and-placed Early Response systems. So the question is, what are the impacts of MOSAIC and how can MOSAIC change our ways and perspective in dealing with flu pandemic?
Two-thousands-and-ten years ago, the epoch that our world was in is known as the B.C period. Flash forward that into today, the world that we all know will once be known as the B.M or, Before Mosaic era. How about tomorrow? Well tomorrow is the dawn of the A.M or Anno Mosaic era. And yes, those are two very different eras indeed.
At this point, you probably think that we forgot about or Early Response system. Rest assures that we will get into it right now. In our early response system, we implemented the MOSAIC recommendation panel that provide mathematical and statistical model that will help us deal with pandemic. We have modeled the Hazard Rate that helps world’s government to focus in countries that needed more attention; the Flu Surge Calculation to help authorities prepared with the surge in demands on hospital based services when there is pandemic possibilities detected; and also the Flu Workloss Model, to help stakeholders calculate the direct impact of the pandemic to the industrial and business productivity. We also built a Collaborative Platform that engages people to share their information about the flu pandemic itself. We believe that no information is too small, and every piece of that information will help us form a mosaic of the big picture, that is the picture of the world winning the battle against flu pandemic.
We also realized that in order to solved the world’s toughest problem a global collaboration is needed. That is why we provide every developer in the world to join hand in hand and help us win the battle through our MOSAIC API. With this they can build their own application in any platform, locally and globally, even in their own language in their country. The possibilities are just endless.
So if the world blacked out for two minutes and seventeen seconds and see the world’s future in six months time (like in the Flash Forward series that inspired us) we believe that in those 137 seconds they will see a world where they no longer have to worry about the threat of a deadly pandemic, because they know MOSAIC will protect them.

Let's talk about numb3rs. There will be huge amount of numbers of dollars loss if there is flu pandemic. Business activity will stop and economy will drop down when flu pandemic occurs. It is estimated up to 3 trillion US$ economic loss, and more that 60 million US$ more is needed to give treatment to cure flu pandemic. And those only happen in US alone. The world loss ? More than triple.
This is the exact time to prevent those large amount of money loss with Mosaic. And the price for Mosaic ? more than thousands times cheaper !
There is one piece that we’d mention before : MOSAIC API. We’d like to invite everyone so they can build an apps, connect with MOSAIC and together fighting the flu pandemic. Everyone can make their own apps simply using our API. An Iphone app is just the example :

The next piece of the Mosaic system is the early warning system. Well, it is a no brainer that without the awareness of people all around the world our sophisticated Early Response system will end in vain. So it is most crucial for us to spread the detection to as many people as possible. In other to fulfill that, we took three approaches:
Mosaic Information Centric Website
We have built the Mosaic website into a complete information repository regarding the flu pandemic. We’d like people not only read the news but love to browse and search information, and in a heartbeat, see the details they want. We found a delicate way to serve graphs when people reluctant to see the important details. By this, people all around the world will be aware about the current situation and the kind of flu that they are dealing with. Like the great Sun-Tzu said: if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss
The Power of Social Network
Yes! We connect the Mosaic into social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and many more. Why? Well just ask yourself what is the tab in your internet browser that you kept open the longest.
Mobile Phones and Emails
People can also subscribe information and connect with Mosaic via their mobile phones and email addresses. With this they will get up-to-date reports regarding the flu pandemic by SMS's or Emails. Just a trivia: There are 5 billions mobile phones user in the world.
With those three approaches we believe that our Early Warning system will give people the awareness and information that they needed to deal with flu pandemics.
The picture below show us the cases during the flu pandemic period. What we want to do is find the case at the early stage, at the green arrow. This early detection can lead to early warning and early response so the pandemic it self can be prevented.

A surge of new technologies and social media innovations is altering the media landscape. These chances are affecting the way people behave. Now, the INTERNET has made measurable what was previously immeasurable and as we all know, people do online search for every problem they encounter, so basically everything, including online search before they go to the doctor consulting about a disease.
We find that these online queries are very valuable resources which hold information regarding the possibility of pandemic occurrence. We build our model by filtering the search queries related to flu, and do some advance data mining technique to detect the outbreak. Our method relies on the emerging research on public health field that proven statistically effective describing health activity patterns.
This is our initial algorithm that describe the flu activity during 2009-2010. As we can see, our model fit the real world problem, where the evaluator capture increasing flu activity on May, 2009 (blue line) , and on the middle of July it shown the outbreak happened. As all we know that it is a swine flu stroke the globe. Providing early detection is important, because it could lead to early warning and rapid response from stakeholders.
So, here we are, the most important part in helping ill people, and protecting the healthy one from flu pandemic.
Healthcare Facilities
We people all around the world rely on stakeholders in dealing with flu pandemic. It is very simple, we go to doctors when we got ill, don't we? So, in our first feature in Mosaic early response system is, we provide information regarding hospitals, doctors, simply any healthcare facilities that can help people in having quick and correct treatment. Very direct response indeed.
Great Collaboration Platform
We provide a very great collaboration platform for anyone in the world. All people in the world can join us fight flu pandemic by giving any information needed. We server the vast information system and friendly user interface so people can get more info on flu pandemic. They can engage people by uploading their files, videos or articles
Mosaic Recommendation Panel
Third, we provide stakeholders with a very detailed recommendation system. We provide important information regarding the impact when flu pandemic occurs. This information consists of the estimation of the most crucial countries facing flu pandemic, surge in demands for hospital services, and also total day work loss prediction.
a VSTO (Excel recommendation system app for easy to use)
Those 3 features have been the most important ways that Mosaic provides in giving early response.
